Hi,
we operate a DA42, a DA40 and a C172 with Centurion engines. Both the DA40 and C172 have a Centurion 2.0s installed... we like the improvements.. but they also came at a high price tag..
In a few months we have to change the engines of our DA42 (currently on 2.0). Does someone have a good comparison for both options prepared in regards to
- On time installation cost
- Running costs
- Performance improvements with 2.0s
Would save me lots of time for research..
thx!
Hans

Re: Need new Centurion engines... 2.0 or 2.0s?
When Diamond first was looking at this conversion for DA42's, I found the data and economics both to be underwhelming. The performance gains were minor: 5-ish knots in cruise and a couple hundred feet per minute in climb. The costs were way out of line with any potential gain: the new cowling/mount kit was something like $80,000 and the 2.0s carried a 1200 TBR.
That was several years ago, and I've lost track of TBR extensions for that engine, but any DA42 will likely have a very expensive conversion kit to go from 2.0 -> 2.0s.

Re: Need new Centurion engines... 2.0 or 2.0s?
This has recently been announced, which is a shame because it would have meant that you would at least have had the choice to continue to fly with your existing 2.0 engines 'on-condition'.
Have a look at post 18 and 25 for some performance data of the 2.0S engine:
https://www.euroga.org/forums/maintenan ... a42?page=2
Also, if you have some time to spare, this may be interesting:
https://www.euroga.org/forums/flying/88 ... ff?page=46
https://www.euroga.org/forums/aircraft/ ... 42?page=30
Cost wise, AFAIUI you are talking about roughly 80k€ to get new 2.0 engines installed and 150k€ for 2.0S. Add VAT if applicable. There are people here that are actively looking at doing the change as well, they may have more accurate info..
EDITED: Forgot to put in an IAOPA announcement after the first para to the effect that the easier maintenance requirements for ELA-2 aircraft are delayed to 2019.. Will post later

Re: Need new Centurion engines... 2.0 or 2.0s?
here you go:
Part-M-Light Delayed
During the recent GA Sectorial Team meeting EASA gave an update on the progress of Part-M-Light, the new maintenance regulation for aircraft below 2730kg which holds a lot of promise to simplify maintenance of GA aircraft.
EASA published its opinion back in 2016 and it was expected that the new regulation would go into effect later this year. Unfortunately the process now seems to be further delayed. The initial indication was that the delay was purely because of capacity issues getting the regulation through the Commission and EASA Commitee, but now the message is that the legal experts at the Commission wants to have the regulation reworded to improve legal clarity.
This is bad news for several reasons: the original Part-M-Light proposal was deliberately made in a language that was short, clear and easy for for the owner-pilot to relate to and also the additional delay pushes all the benefits of a simpler maintenance regime further into the future.
Currently the prediction is that best case the new regulation could be in effect mid 2019. The only good news is that there is no intent to make material changes to the content of the original Part-M-Light proposal.

I'm waiting for the offer for CD-155 upgrade from Diamond - hope to get it in few weeks. I already have the offer from Crosby and it's consistent with what others wrote.
