ADSB Out - skyBeacon is now available for order
I've been waiting for uAvionix's skyBeacon as a more affordable solution to ADS-B out for my aircraft. I just received an email from them that it's available for order and shipping in August.
I can't wait to get the unit. It will replace the strobe and left position light.

Let us know how it goes. I might be interested in installing one next year.

"At this time there is not a wingtip mounted version with integrated rear position lights in development."

Re: ADSB Out - skyBeacon is now available for order
I've had some email correspondence with them. Initially they indicated that they were developing a version with an integrated rear position light. I guess not anymore. They would have a ready-made market of a few hundred older DA-40s if they field a version that directly replaces the Whelen unit. In my situation, I was looking at either skyBeacon or GDL-82. The skyBeacon would be a much more elegant solution and easier install, if only... I will delay as long as possible...

One thing I've noticed is the unit price has been slowly creeping up, though still the least expensive unit and the easiest install.

How are you going to preserve/replace the rear-facing position light? You have to have it...DA40KPAO wrote:Definitely, I'll post updates and any installation insights once I have it.Pascal wrote:Let us know how it goes. I might be interested in installing one next year.

I am considering this option also for my DA-40. I realize position lights at required equipment for night operation but must you have forward and rear facing lights? Most aircraft just have forward facing.

Look more carefully. The white rear position light(s) may not be on the wingtips, but there will be one on the tail.BillWhite wrote:I am considering this option also for my DA-40.
