Fuel cap retainer
Hello,
Did some of you already change the fuel cap retainer?
On of them is cut, so I wanted to replace it.
What shall I pay attention to?
I’m afraid that remaining piece on the wing side will fall in the tank when I will unscrew.
Any experience or recommendations ?

Re: Fuel cap retainer
I've had that ground strap replaced twice, though I didn't do it myself. I share your concern, given how often I drop some small thing while trying to manipulate its position. I'd be inclined to fashion some kind of net anchored (taped?) on the outside that projected below the piece you're removing. Something like an aquarium fish net with a wire handle?

Re: Fuel cap retainer
I've replaced mine a couple of times. I just clamp a needle-nosed vise grip pliers on the eyelet before removing the screw. I (luckily) haven't lost one yet...

Re: Fuel cap retainer
I also worry about dropping the screw

Re: Fuel cap retainer
you could use a pair of small forceps for the wire and and a magnetized screw driver for the screw ( if it is not stainless ) you could also use a grabber screw driver.

Re: Fuel cap retainer
The screws are stainless flat head Phillips, but they don't have to be fully removed. Just completely loosen the one securing the ring terminal and partially loosen the ones on either side of that one. Clamp the Vise-Grip on the ring terminal, and pull the screw up enough to clear it. You don't have to pull the screw out of its hole to get the ring terminal out. Reverse the process to reinstall...

Re: Fuel cap retainer
Did you use a specific type of wire for the retainer?
