Best resource to learn a new plane as in-depth as possible
Just picked a Da40NG. Besides the POH, what is the best resource to learn every single thing possible about the plane? This is for myself and for my son who will be working through all of his ratings through CFI II in this plane.

Find a copy of the AMM online. Those exploded diagrams are invaluable! Everything else you can learn here at DAN
Edit: find it here

Reading the AFM and AMM (Maintenance Manual) is the definitive way to learn "everything" about the plane. Because these address several variants of the DA40NG, and "some assembly" to bring the basic downloadable version of the AFM up to the latest version (i.e. "inserting all the yellow pages"), it's not particularly straightforward. The illustrated parts catalog (IPC) is also helpful for visualization. These are accessible from the Diamond Technical website:

The same is true for the Austro Engine operating guide and maintenance manuals, and you have to get access to the "customer area" from Austro to access these, and the Austro IPC requires a separate password.

I think John Ewing's "The Concise Guide the Diamond DA40NG" (available as an Apple e-book) does a very good job of highlighting the essentials in an accessible format with photos and illustrations. (Some pilots and CFIs may quibble with some of his Flight Procedure recommendations.)
