Some readers may be confused by your post since as you probably know, 3D audio and some of those other GMA1360 features are not certified and thus not part of the factory installation. As you point out, with a software loader card and some technical acumen, they can be accessed and enabled.

I also heard that it's possible to enable an audible 200' warning prior to reaching a selected altitude during a climb or descent under autopilot, in addition to the factory standard 1,000' warning.

Hi,
The 3D audio is described in the manuals, so we felt safe in turning it on. The loader card was not required. It was set to USER (not OFF), but the described method for turning it on via the UI (either MFD or via the audio panel) didn’t work, so we (as others on this list) activated it. All this being said, 3D audio is nice but not essential.

What WAS essential was turning the 1360 sidetone: without it, it sounds like you’re in a 1970’s Warrior.

But, as other have written, don’t screw around with the settings unless you know what you are doing.

On the Altitude Alert, this is what PG says:
“ ALTITUDE ALERTING
Altitude alerting provides the pilot with visual and aural alerts when approaching the Selected Altitude.
Whenever the Selected Altitude is changed, the altitude alerter is reset. The following occur when approaching
the Selected Altitude:
- Upon passing through 1000 feet of the Selected Altitude, the Selected Altitude changes to black text on a cyan
background and flashes for five seconds.
- When the aircraft passes within 200 feet of the Selected Altitude, the annunciation changes to cyan text on a
black background, flashes for five seconds, and an aural tone is heard.
- After reaching the Selected Altitude, if the pilot flies outside the deviation band (±200 feet of the Selected
Altitude) an aural tone is heard. The Selected Altitude changes to amber text on a black background and
flashes for five seconds.”

There are a number of areas in which the manual is not consistent with what Diamond certified in Phase II.
