AE300 Cost
Hi All,
Our DA42 NG's AE300s are reaching their 12 year time before replacement (apparently overhaul not an option). We are aware of the current lead time but wanted an idea on costs people were paying for the engines and/or installation costs (UK preferred but any input from anywhere appreciated).
Any other input or suggestions on our current situation are also appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Re: AE300 Cost
Is an overhaul at 12 years mandatory in the UK? In the US, we can operate "on condition" under Part 91.

There is a caveat to this. Each annual you need to find an IA that's willing to say it's still airworthy.michael.g.miller wrote: ↑Thu Jan 26, 2023 11:16 pm Is an overhaul at 12 years mandatory in the UK? In the US, we can operate "on condition" under Part 91.

Re: AE300 Cost
An overhaul isn’t even an option. It has to be new engines!
As I understand it, you can’t run on condition if maintained by a diamond approved maintenance organisation as diamond/austro won’t approve this.

I never understood why they remained with iron block when they changed policy to TBR. They could switch to aluminium and save some weight for increased payload.

Re: AE300 Cost
Time and Money. Theilert (now CMI), engines were aluminum, but the company spent years designing the replacement block.
It was easier, faster and cheaper to modify the airframe than repeat the design work completed by MB on the iron block, or repeat what Theilert had done. Do not forget that when Theilert went TU, Diamond had planes around the world which were effectively AOG. Time was of the essence.
