I am in the market for a DA-40. Preferably IFR equipped.
I'm trying to get a sense of price ranges right now. I see 3 or 4 for sale from 2004 with G1000s, each asking for $260-280 range. Is this really the cheapest DA-40 I can find right now? Or are these asking prices inflated and sellers may be willing to come down? It looks like there are SR-22's going for cheaper. I don't really need a G-1000 suite.
I suppose I can bite the bullet and maybe get one of these for $250 and it's probably not going to go down in value too much.

Re: Wanted DA-40
Hi Dylan. Welcome to the Forum. In 2021, my 2001 DA40 with about 800 hours was appraised by Vref at $225K. Probably be worth a bit more now, but if you are looking for an early airframe, you can probably get something in that neighborhood. Mine is IFR certified with an autopilot. Of course, if you are planning on upgrading to glass panel, you are looking at another $50K add.

No, mine is not for sale.

Re: Wanted DA-40
Sold mine a year ago.
a 2003 with 850 hrs, steam gauge with a/p, for $226K (based in Europe but with FAA docs).
Would recommend to look for a steam gauge one, see thread "Thoughts on a 2004/2005 DA-40" about the future of early G1000.

Re: Wanted DA-40
Just went under contract for this plane: https://www.controller.com/listing/for- ... e-aircraft
2001 DA-40 with Aspen/Avidyne panel, 4400TTAF, 1400SFOH, 185k
Seemed like a good enough deal and fits my mission (buzzing around the Pacific Northwest and occasionally dipping through a cloud layer if I need to)
Looks like it was owned by another forum member here (johnu) which would explain the nice panel.
Having the pre buy done this week. Very excited

Congrats. I saw that airplane and met the owner (President of Aspen Avionics) on a Spring Break trip to the Southwest about 13 years ago. He kept his plane at Double Eagle II (KAEG), where my son and I stopped for a few days of hiking in the Albuquerque area. DA 40s were pretty rare back then, and Austrian-built ones even rarer. He was on the ramp preflighting when we were, so naturally, we went over to take a look. I believe that at that time he had only two screens installed.
Sounds like you got a good deal. I'm confident that you will really enjoy the airplane.

In the category of “small world” the guy that’s ferrying your new plane was my Flight Instructor for like 15 years and flew my plane on occasion.

Re: Wanted DA-40
Interesting coincidence. I just took delivery of the plane yesterday. Gorgeous bird. The ferry pilot said it flew very well. I haven't gotten a chance to fly it myself yet. Unfortunately one of the seatbelts is busted so I won't be able to fly dual until that is fixed
