Re: Corked Nose Wheel
I took a different approach to this problem. A while back I replaced the bearings in the NLG and tightened the gear to the maximum. I haven't been able to "see" whether it works until today when I borrowed my brother's GoPro. For at least today's flight the nose wheel was straight. The plane is going into annual on Monday so I'm going to have them adjust the trim tab since the plane flies slightly ball left in cruise.

Re: Corked Nose Wheel
No difference. The maximum tension is set in the DA40 AMM. Flew again today with GoPro. Still straight. Took off on the opposite runway. Still a small sample size, of course, but I'm pleased.

Re: Corked Nose Wheel
As a data point, I flew my DA40-180 for 3 years with 50% more tension... It helped, but didn't solve the problem. The fin solved it totally.

Re: Corked Nose Wheel
I always have kept mine at the maximum allowable tension specified in the AMM, measured with an electronic fish scale at the nose wheel axle. I've not experienced a corked nose wheel (at least as far as I can detect) in 22 years of ownership.

Re: Corked Nose Wheel
I had my wheel fairings off for a few years and the plane flew straight. They’re back on now and I’m about 5-7 knots faster, but I’m pushing the right rudder during flight. I’m not sure I want to add a fin, but I might leave the nose fairing off again.
