DA42 Down in North Carolina
Looks like no injuries which is great news:

Appears that it had the Lycoming 360s. Will be very interested to learn more! I've spent a lot of time behind those engines in other planes.

The FAA registration says that it is Thielert: https://registry.faa.gov/AircraftInquir ... Txt=N906ER

Re: DA42 Down in North Carolina
Interesting. I was going off the picture of the accident airplane that has DA42-L360 on this side.

Re: DA42 Down in North Carolina
Because the tail number ends in "ER," it's an ex-Embry-Riddle U aircraft. When Thielert went bankrupt in 2008, but before the Austro AE300 had been certified for the DA42, Embry-Riddle converted its TDI fleet to Lycoming IO-360s. (They've long since replaced these avgas DA42s with DA42-VI Austro-engined aircraft.)
So the accident aircraft may very well have been equipped with a pair of avgas IO-360s rather than Thielert/Continental diesels.

Re: DA42 Down in North Carolina
The NC crash might not be a loss of power based on the pilot's statement.

The preliminary on the NC crash is on the NTSB site and it makes for very interesting reading.

Re: DA42 Down in North Carolina
The NTSB CAROL query builder (required for items later than 2008) makes it hard to provide a link. I haven't yet figured out how to do that. Use "Diamond" for aircraft make and "42" in the model "contains" field. As it happens it's currently the latest (top) entry.

As suggested, creating a separate thread for this accident. Attached is the NTSB preliminary.

Re: DA42 Down in North Carolina
That's a cascading / overlapping set of unfortunate things. Engines turning off. AHRS turning off. Trim / pitch control not working.
