Re: Flying with Dogs
I've taken my own adult, mid-sized, dogs up to 14,000' for nearly two hours and they didn't seem to mind it. They fell asleep by the time we hit 10k. I really try to avoid that, though, and probably wouldn't go higher than 8,000' with a puppy on board. We had some very small puppies on a Pilots-n-Paws flight last weekend and had to go up to 7,000' to stay above some weather. They seemed to handle it OK.VickersPilot wrote: ↑Sun Mar 13, 2022 11:06 pm What is the longest flight time / highest altitude people have tried?

Re: Flying with Dogs
I did a PnP with a tiny puppy maybe a week old 10,000' for about 2 1/2hrs in hot smokey skies. When we arrived it wasn't moving and my wife was terrified we had killed it. The rescue receiver laughed and said "no, he's just asleep". He woke up and was fine.

Re: Flying with Dogs
How do you load your bigger dogs?
Sage is a white lab weighing in at 90 lbs, I’m think I’m going to put a blanket on the wing and try to pick her up to it so she doesn’t scratch anything and then let her jump in thru the back door to the seat. Any useful tips?

Re: Flying with Dogs
Blanket on the wing.... that's exactly what I have done with bigger dogs on PnP missions. I once forgot the blanket but used the back seat car cradle thingy instead on the wings, it's rubberized surface held really well and made me think that having an extra (one installed and one for loading) might be the way to go. Needless to say a second set of hands does wonders too

Re: Flying with Dogs
For larger dogs try one of these:

This works perfectly on my DA62. Probably just fine on other models. Our pups likes it. Had mixed experience with PnP dogs.

Re: Flying with Dogs
Both of my Wirehaired Pointing Griffons have made the journey from KEIK to KBST with us. They are fantastic passengers. We will fly about 3 hour legs with them up to about 12K. I do put a blanket on the wing and then boost them up to get in. They just lay on the back seat and either sleep or look out the window. I've also flown many dogs for Pilots & Paws that are being rescued. Never had a single problem with any dog. Really fun to get them to their forever homes.
