Delivery Delayed by 1 year

Serial 62.252 with tail number N123AA was delivered on 10/24/2023. Original order date was July 2021.

I ordered my 62, C.041, in January 2021. It was delivered in May 2022, an eight month slip to the right. What’s caused the waiting time (and the average ‘slip to the right’ time) to increase so much? Obviously the order book backlog explains some of it, but doesn’t explain the increased ‘slip to the right’ time.

I ordered my 62 (serial 220) in June 2021. Original delivery date was to be Q3 2022. That slipped slightly; she received her US airworthiness certificate at the end of December 2022 and I closed on Jan. 6 (kudos to Premier and US Aircraft Finance for getting it done that quick over the holidays) because that was the last day of my rate lock at 5.49%! I wound up having it delivered to me in Feb. 2022 due to winter weather delays for some test flights and squawk fixes in Ontario.

But if you look at the serial numbers discussed in this thread, you can see that between June and July 2021, Diamond took well over 30 new orders for 62s that were ultimately to be built in Austria. It’s interesting that those orders, plus a slew of MPP orders, had the effect of extending the schedule by a year or more from what I experienced (which was about 18-20 months). I guess I just had good timing on the order dates…

I don’t even want to think about what the interest rates are today on new aircraft loans… would be a good thread topic in itself.

Headed for my first annual during the first week of December … once you get your airplane, all this stress will be in the rear view, trust me on that!

mostly the wait time now is 3 years for da62 unless u go for a second hand then u can get it quite fast.

The overlap of the DA50 and, I'm assuming, high margins of the MPP, are pushing regular 62 deliveries to the right. Mine has slipped about 6 months from Q1'24 to, hopefully, early Q3'24.

For what it is worth, the owner of the DA62 I fly also has a slot coming for another one, sometime this year I think.
