Hey Guys,
I did a Diamond Aircraft Insurance Buyers Guide earlier this year that should help you make estimates for where your insurance rates should be based on experience and Pilot licenses. https://sunsetais.com/airplanes/diamond/

-1% of Hull Value for Experienced Pilots (over 1,000TT) with PRIV, INST, ME (for DA62/42)
-1.5% of Hull Value for Moderately Pilots (500 - 1,000TT) with with PRIV, INST, ME (for DA62/42)
-2% of Hull Value for Low Time Transitioning Pilots (200TT) with a PRIV and maybe working on INST or ME
-3% of Hull Value for Student Pilots

Any age caveats on these rates?

If we're paying more than this, what are our options?

Yes, there are age variants around 70+ years old for rates and liability limits but the market has slowly started to become more receptive to 70 year old pilots.
"If we're paying more than this, what are our options?" Just try and get a full market response from your broker so you know all the boxes have been checked.

In my case, not so much liability, as hull.

800+hrs, 100+ in the DA62 with instrument and I'm paying 2%.

Yes! Same-same! Thank you for kind words. Hope the rates go down next year with more retractable time and as his age goes up. Seems like the more ratings you add the insurance is more reasonable. The Cirrus is a great machine but Blaze needs multi-engine time and Diamond fit the bill. Both are amazing but most likely the Cirrus is the long-term “keeper” tho as it’s faster, more resources for maintenance and the chute is a nice extra peace of mind.

You can switch agents by doing a change of record agent form. I use Ryan K also. I’m about to come up for renewal after 1 year of DA62 ownership and will be interested to see how this comes out for year two… Ask Ryan whether he can do the change of agent form. Once that happens, the new agent can shop for you.
