Engine cowling upgrade to dash VI?

Post by yl472401 »

Just a thought if there’s any possibility to change the Austro engine NG version cowling to the dash 6 to reduce the drag ? Anyone has it done ?

Unfortunately, it’s not possible due to changes in the location of various cold air source intake.

See pic from John Ewing’s book, The Concise Guide to The Diamond DA42.

I wish it were possible to do when swapping engines.. but I don't think Diamond allows this. Would be happy to be proven wrong though!

IIRC when I was checking different upgrade options, DAI told me that NG to -VI upgrade was not possible.

A bummer. I'd be willing to pay to get those 10 knots...

But that was when the engines were TBO. Now with TBR policy it might be different.

So, it will be absolutely TBR or it’s not mandatory for part 91?

It's no longer possible to overhaul any Austro engine, due to an Austro policy change. The good news is that for part 91, we are not obligated to abide by any time limits. The bad news is that you must buy a new full-price engine once the time comes for your engine.
