DA62 USB Ports
I have heard a rumour that Diamond are fitting USB C ports to newer aircraft. I have a 62 on order so just wanted to know if this is true and potentially more power would be available than with USB A

Re: DA62 USB Ports
If they support the full USB-C spec then yes, USB-C supports up to 20V and 100W, I can recharge my laptop on USB-C or maintain its charge if it is running. USB-A's original spec was 5V and 2.5W so a slow charge for a modern mobile phone.

Re: DA62 USB Ports
I would be pleasantly surprised to learn that they support the PD spec. Most of the after-market ones I've seen are 15W (5V @ 3A). I'd love to get 25W or more.

Re: DA62 USB Ports
Any idea on the port spec? I have Garmin gsb 15 in the Cirrus rated to 3A per port.

Re: DA62 USB Ports
The IPC lists it as a TA202 from True Blue Power (subsidiary of Mid-Continent), and 15w per port. Not high power.

Re: DA62 USB Ports
Thanks for finding that, 3A is fine for iPad/phone. As I understand it there are a pair of ports for both pilot and copilot plus one shared for the second row? My power requirements are IPad, o2d2, air-sync & sky echo (picks up Flarm from gliders) so that can all run from the front although perhaps air-sync could be tucked somewhere else. Might need a port in the back for the second o2d2. Be interested in what everyone else does especially keeping the wires tidy?

Re: DA62 USB Ports
I use two iPad Mini's and the batteries easily last long enough for one day of flights, roughly 4-6hrs. I turn off the display on the iPad when it's not needed. The G1000NXi provides two moving maps (MFD + PFD inset). I use the iPads for checklists, approach plates, airport information, and occasionally zooming the moving map for more detail.
I use batteries in the O2D2 and they last quite awhile, longer than the built in tank of air with just my wife and I, typically at 14,000'.
I only use the USB ports as a back up for charging the iPad or iPhone in the event they aren't charged the morning of the departure.
