Ga35 gps waas antenna location

Post by npelchat »

Hi,

I am having a garmin gtx 335 ads-b out with ga35 antenna installed on my da20.

Is it ok to install the antenna on the dashboard rather than on top of the plane behind windshield?

My avionics technician is wondering if this is allowed on a certified aircraft. I am based in Canada.

Thanks

Nichol

Hi Nichol,

Do you currently have a GPS installed in your aircraft? My aircraft had a Garmin GPS 150 installed. The antenna is normally mounted inside the aircraft above the baggage area. There is a little tray mounted in the upper rear of the cockpit.

I upgraded my avionics from the GPS 150 to a Garmin gtn650 which used a waas antenna (GA 35) instead of the older Garmin gps antenna. Anyway, it is a little tricky to remove the old antenna and mount the new one. The main thing I think was the bolts are tricky to access. I would not mount it on the dash as it would look ugly.

Thanks John,
I was finally able to find the location you are referring to and it seems to be the best place to install it. Just have to buy a bracket from Diamond to place the WAAS antenna. I do have another GPS only antenna and it is under facing down.
